The height channels add so much more to this film which features its fair share of explosions and knife fights early on even. Fireworks erupt at dazzling highs, and knives reflect light when unsheathed with brilliant flares. In the conspiratorial background, every policy and every leader pulls on the other in this pervasive tug-of-war, aiming to better only themselves. In a sense, inspiring, but ultimately too uncertain of where it stands. Certainly in color grading it is, punchier where vibrancy is needed, more naturally muted as necessary. The 4K presentation is a definite upgrade over the old Blu-ray – both the video and audio are top notch. The Blu-ray exists in a murky blue shadow; the UHD is solid black, and no loss of definition. It’s based in hyper-intellectualism, defense of the undefended, and absolute righteousness in tearing down the systems controlling society. Big budget glossiness batters some of the thematic resonance. As a piece of pop superhero-ish cinema, V for Vendetta takes a grander stance than most. Yet it’s also an accusatory film, somber in showing what happens to those still sitting on their couches, knowing this is all nonsense but never doing anything. Finally, the bonus materials, upgrade. It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to leave you realizing how much those height channels really do add to this listening experience.
