Some of us have waited for the Western Genre to have a comeback ~ and hopefully more historically correct for Natives and Blacks. So, I went in to Lone Ranger with low expectations based on reviews I had read from the so called experts. If you take it for what it is, The Lone Ranger is a reasonably entertaining film, with a very strong performance by Depp. The Warner Brothers Network struggled to reboot "The Lone Ranger" without success as a weekly series in this cable TV adaptation. While details differ, the basic story of the Lone Ranger's origin is consistent in most versions of the franchise. Was not sure what to expect from this. Kansas plugs both Hartmans, but Luke manages to survive the ordeal. I fondly remember a much simpler time, when the age of radio programs was fading into memory and in that dying flicker the name that stood for justice. I was a little disappointed about the critics' review of the movie, since I adore Johnny Depp and had been waiting for the movie to release for months. The action and humor are awesome, and the relationship between the two is excellent. It had all the earmarks of Hollywood of the time ~ as in hoof beats on a hollow sound-stage floor, phoney back-drops, the same local scene re-used ad nausium. Instead of Butch Cavendish and his gang, we have `Kansas City' Haas and the Regulators who kill the Rangers. I am very impressed with the way WB updated the Lone Ranger. That movie didn't go too far! The violence wasn't ridiculous where you couldn't bring children to watch it but authentic enough to know not to try it at home. It's got a very basic plot, some really good acting from The Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Johnny Depp) there's only a few little odd scenes where Johnny Depp feels out of character. I guess the fact that they don't show any blood spurting out is why the censors and ratings board gave it a pass. This version takes a look at the character in the years before he became a legend. I did like the mystical elements introduced, it adds an interesting angle to the character although the silly power-jumping stuff reminded me of an old show called Manimal for some odd reason.
